Coin roll hunting has grown in popularity and profitability over the last several years. In a previous article, I discussed a decline in profitability of coin roll searching due to the growing competition that stems from increasing silver prices and growing exposure to the CRH hobby. Coin Roll Hunting
Buying older coins, error coins, and silver coins from a coin dealer can become very expensive. Finding them with a metal detector can also require a good chunk of cash. Coin roll hunting is one of the most affordable ways to grow a coin collection. The only major requirement is that you have cash to exchange for coin rolls or coin bags. There are no coin dealer premiums as a silver quarter will only cost you a quarter instead of the silver spot melt value.
The process of coin roll hunting is not very complicated, but can be pretty rewarding. I would like to share some tips on getting started, what to look for, a glossary of coin terms you may encounter as well as my opinion on the current state of this hobby. I have personally found a bunch of nice errors, proofs, old coins, fake coins and silver coins using the methods that I describe. This is a fun way to start a coin collection or to make a little extra money in your spare time by selling the coins like I do.

Back when silver was hovering around $10 per ounce, the large driving [...]

Wheat Pennies, also known as the Lincoln Wheat Cents, Wheatbacks and Wheaties, are U.S. one cent coins that were in circulation from 1909 to 1958. After the initial release of the Wheat Penny, a torrent of negativity erupted around the fact that the designer’s initials, V.D.B. were present on the coin. By the middle of [...]
