White’s Goldmaster GMT

Let me just say wow! After years of using a Scorpion Gold Stinger, a White’s Goldmaster GMT metal detector was truly a breath of fresh air. The touch pads make it easy to ground balance manually or you can use the auto-ground balance feature with good results. White’s GMT features give you a lot of control over your machines performance. On my first day out with the Goldmaster GMT, I was up and running in about a quarter of the time that it would have taken with my Gold Stinger not to mention, I did not have to ground balance as often with the Gold master as I did on the Gold Stinger.

White’s Goldmaster was extremely sensitive to small gold and I noticed that I got a little more depth with the Goldmaster than with the Gold Stinger. I also detected smaller pieces of gold. The meter on the Goldmaster worked really well at identifying iron. The Goldmaster metal detector is a great VLF gold grabbing machine and its ability to detect small gold is great for working drywasher tailings. However, it is still a VLF metal detector and will not have the depth of a pulse induction metal detector in heavy mineralization.

An advantage of VLFs is that they are also a lot less expensive than pulse induction metal detectors, though the PIs are worth the price if you are willing to stick with the hobby. Overall, I think that White’s Goldmaster metal detector is about as easy to operate as any gold detector will ever be.  An excellent choice for beginners and professionals on a budget. By the way, the Goldmaster 4b is basically a Whites GMT with a meter instead of digital readout and lacks the auto ground balance feature. Pick up one of these used and you can get one heck of a gold detector for the price.
